REPEAT OFFENDER ARRESTED FOR SEVERAL BURGLARIES TO LOCAL BUSINESSES
RIVERSIDE, CA – Late last month, the Riverside Police Department’s Property Crimes Unit began following up on a commercial burglary that occurred in the 2000 block of Iowa Avenue in Riverside. Several thousand dollars was stolen from an ATM machine inside the building and damage was caused during the burglary. The break-in was captured on video and the assigned detective recognized the suspect as a local man on probation for theft-related crimes, 27-year-old Michael Aria Javdani.
While investigating, detectives came across several other reports where they were able to identify Mr. Javdani as being involved. In fact, they believed he was responsible for at least 7 burglaries and/or thefts where he would break in to the business and steal money from the cash register, steal money from the safe, and in two cases, steal the safe. These businesses included a sushi restaurant, local tea spot, and sandwich shop. He struck the County of Riverside Department of Child Support Services building and the VIP Nightclub both twice, stealing several thousand dollars from an ATM machine and safe, and causing significantly more in damage to the buildings.
Detectives learned Mr. Javdani had recently been arrested and booked into jail by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office for an unrelated burglary and home invasion robbery. They subsequently obtained a search warrant for his residence, and with assistance from our Problem Oriented Policing (POP) Team, it was served on Tuesday, June 27th in the 4000 block of Sedgwick Avenue. Evidence linking Mr. Javdani to these burglaries was located as well as a loaded and unregistered handgun. Additionally, detectives found a one-wheeled electric skateboard Mr. Javdani was seen riding away on after some of the burglaries. They noticed someone on social media had recently posted about having their one-wheeled electric skateboard stolen last month and believed this may be the same one. That victim was contacted and detectives were able to confirm by serial number that it was his property. The skateboard was valued at over $2,000.
Mr. Javdani is currently on probation in Riverside and San Bernardino counties for theft-related violations and our Property Crimes detectives will be filing additional charges for the crimes he committed in Riverside. He is still in custody at a Riverside County Sheriff’s jail facility and being held without bail.
“It was good old-fashioned police work that led our detectives to identifying this repeat offender breaking into our local businesses,” stated Riverside Police Chief Larry Gonzalez. “But it’s also an important reminder to keep records on expensive and unique property just in case anything were to happen. Because the owner of this skateboard kept a receipt with his serial number, along with his tenacity on social media, he’s back riding it again.”
