ROBBERY SUSPECTS QUICKLY APPREHENDED
Riverside, CA – On Thursday, June 18, 2020, at approximately 2:39 p.m., the City of Riverside’s Public Safety Communications Center received a call of an in-progress robbery occurring at the Daniel’s Jewelers, located at the Riverside Plaza shopping center in the 3400 block of Riverside Plaza Drive. Multiple officers and our Air Support Unit were on scene immediately as the suspects fled through the shopping center.
It was reported that three male suspects had entered the business and committed a takeover style robbery, forcing employees into a back room. They smashed the glass counters and stole jewelry merchandise, then fled the store toward the rear of the shopping center. A witness called police after observing the suspects shed their clothing and run in the residential neighborhood just north of the railroad tracks and adjacent to Merrill Avenue. The three suspects surrendered to K-9 “Ric Vigo” and officers as police converged in the area of Elenor Street and Jurupa Avenue.
When safely detained, the suspects were found in possession of some of the stolen jewelry. With the assistance of K-9 “Finn,” officers retraced the path the suspects fled and found more stolen jewelry, which totaled approximately $200,000.
Deontray Hinton Jr. and Marvin Green, both 19-years-old of Sacramento, and Michael Wiggs, 18-years-old of Moreno Valley, were taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries they sustained when breaking the glass display cases during the robbery. Once medically cleared, the suspects were booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center for robbery and conspiracy to commit a felony. All three are being held on $30,000 bail.
Detectives with the Crimes Against Persons Unit responded and assisted in this investigation. Anyone with additional information should contact Detective Jeff Putnam at (951) 826-2054 or [email protected].
