4th of July Bike with the Mayor Event Cancelled Due to State Restrictions

Tighter restrictions were announced today to slow the resurgence of COVID-19 in Riverside County

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Mayor Rusty Bailey today (7/1) cancelled his planned July 4th “Bike with the Mayor” event after the state announced tighter restrictions on some activities to slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

The ride has been planned as part of a week of “Spirit of Riverside” activities to celebrate Independence Day. Other activities this week include food and blood drives, as well as the collection of school supplies for young people. Additional information can be found at https://riversideca.gov/spiritofriverside.

However, Gov. Newsom announced on Wednesday that Riverside County is one of more than a dozen counties across the state where certain indoor activities should be curtailed for the next three weeks.  Bars are closed, and indoor seating at restaurants is closing, as are wineries and tasting rooms, movie theaters, family entertainment centers, zoos and museums and cardrooms.

“While the ride would be outdoors and cycling naturally encourages social distancing, gathering in a group to begin the ride and any celebration afterward could needlessly put people at risk, given the rising number of cases in Riverside County,” Mayor Bailey said. “I encourage Riversiders to celebrate Independence Day safely with their families.”
