4TH OF JULY FIREWORKS ENFORCEMENT TASK FORCE UPDATE
RIVERSIDE, CA - During this 4th of July holiday, The Riverside Police Department, Riverside Fire Department, and Riverside Code Enforcement teamed up to enforce illegal fireworks restrictions in the city of Riverside. On Saturday, July 4, 2020, members of the City of Riverside Fireworks Task Force issued 58 citations and seized an estimated 652 pounds of illegal fireworks related to those violations. So far this past couple weeks, the Task Force has issued 100 citations and seized an estimated 853 pounds of illegal fireworks.
Riverside has been working diligently over the past five years to reduce the usage of fireworks in the city. During the course of the night, fireworks caused multiple vegetation, tree and structure fires. They can also cause injuries in adults and children, create stress, and terrify pets.
Numerous citations were issued as a direct result of City of Riverside’s 311 Call Center mobile app service requests submitted by our residents, which gave Task Force members immediate notification of a fireworks violation. We ask the public to continue to report any observed illegal fireworks activities through the 311 Call Center at (951) 825-5311, the 311 mobile app, or online at https://crmweb.riversideca.gov/.
Residents are reminded that all fireworks are illegal in the city and can result in a minimum fine of $1,000, if observed.
