City of Riverside Invites Public to Ethics and Conduct Meeting

Annual review is designed to ensure effectiveness of Code of Ethics and Conduct

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The City of Riverside is inviting the public to recommend potential amendments to the city’s Code of Ethics and Conduct.

The City Council’s Governmental Affairs Committee is scheduled to discuss the issue on Wednesday, Sept. 5, at 3:30 p.m. in the Art Pick Council Chamber, 3900 Main Street in downtown Riverside. The committee will ask for contributions from the Board of Ethics as well as from the public.

“This annual meeting is an important outreach of our local government,” City Clerk Colleen Nicol said. “Citizen engagement in this process improves decision-making.”

Riverside adopted a code of ethics and conduct following voter approval of an amendment to the Charter in 2004.  The Mayor, City Council, and members of city boards, commissions, and committees are subject to the code. The code is reviewed annually to ensure its effectiveness.

The City Council will hear those recommendations at a subsequent City Council meeting. The public is invited to attend that meeting as well.

For more information, visit the City’s Web site at www.riversideca.gov or call the City Clerk’s Office at (951) 826-5557 for a brochure and a copy of the code.
