Eight Riverside Zip Codes Now Eligible Earthquake Brace + Bolt Grant Program
Qualifying homeowners can apply for $3,000 seismic retrofit grants through Feb. 21
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – With the recent 30th anniversary of the Northridge earthquake still top of mind, homeowners in eight zip codes in the City of Riverside are now eligible to apply for Earthquake Brace + Bolt (EBB) seismic retrofit grants.
Through Feb. 21, eligible homeowners in 92501, 92503, 92504, 92505, 92506, 92507, 92508, and 92509 can apply for $3,000 seismic retrofit grants to help strengthen their homes against earthquake damage. Full program rules are here, and resources for homeowners are here.
More than $20 million in grant funding will be available to help offset the cost of seismic retrofits that brace the crawl space walls of older homes, when present, and bolt houses to their foundations, making them less vulnerable to earthquake damage.
In the 10 years since it began, the EBB program has assisted more than 23,000 homeowners in strengthening their homes against earthquake damage. The EBB grant program is administered by the California Residential Mitigation Program (CRMP) a Joint Powers Authority between the California Earthquake Authority (CEA) and the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).
Income-eligible homeowners may also qualify for supplemental grants. Up to $7,000 in additional grant funds are available for households with an annual income at or below $87,360, which may be able to provide up to 100% of the funds needed to cover a seismic retrofit. Grants are contingent upon meeting eligibility requirements and available funds.
A 4.2 magnitude earthquake near Lytle Creek on Jan. 5, 2024, was widely felt across Southern California, and was a reminder that we live in earthquake country. In addition to practicing Drop, Cover, Hold On so it’s reflexive, homeowners with homes built before 1980 should check to see if they need to be retrofitted to help Riverside become even more resilient.

Established by the California Residential Mitigation Program, EBB offers up to $3,000 to help California homeowners retrofit their house to reduce potential damage from earthquakes. Residential seismic retrofits bolt the house to its foundation and add bracing, if required, around the perimeter of the crawl space making it more resistant to earthquake activity.
