Press Conference in Riverside Monday, June 28, Will Emphasize Fireworks Are Illegal in City, Encourage Residents to Attend Free Family Fireworks Shows
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The City of Riverside will hold a press conference at 10 a.m. on Monday, June 28, to emphasize that fireworks are illegal in the City of Riverside and encourage Riverside residents to take advantage of two free, family-friendly fireworks shows.
Who: Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson will speak on the importance of Independence Day and the need to celebrate safely.
City Councilmember Steve Hemenway, who represents Ward 7, will provide details of the fireworks show at La Sierra Park, 5215 La Sierra Ave.
City Councilmember Erin Edwards, who represents Ward 1, will provide details on the new location this year for the downtown fireworks show, at Ryan Bonaminio Park, 5000 Tequesquite Ave..
Fire Chief Michael Moore will speak on the fire danger presented by illegal fireworks and review some of the statistics for fireworks-related calls for service.
Police Chief Larry Gonzalez will discuss efforts to keep the community safe during the 4th of July celebrations and ways that residents can report illegal fireworks.
City Councilmember Jim Perry, who represents Ward 6, will speak as Chair of the Safety, Wellness and Youth Committee.
What: Fireworks are illegal in the City of Riverside because their use presents a danger to residents and business owners, especially during such dry and hot weather. Rather than risk being fined $1,000 for fireworks usage, spend the time with your family at a safe and enjoyable fireworks display at either La Sierra or Ryan Bonaminio parks.
When: 10 a.m., Monday, June 28.
Where: Riverside City Hall breezeway, 3900 Main Street, between 9th and 10th streets.
Why: Illegal fireworks pose a danger to all Riverside residents and business owners, be it from injuries sustained while setting off illegal fireworks or through the loss of life or property from a fire caused by such activity. Fireworks also can be very frightening for pets and people suffering from PTSD. The City of Riverside provides two fireworks shows – one on each end of the city – to give Riverside residents a free, safe and enjoyable place to enjoy fireworks on July 4th.
