Riverside Recognized for Effective Use of Technology in 2018 Digital Cities Survey
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Center for Digital Government (CDG) has recognized Riverside in its 2018 Digital Cities Survey, which commends cities for using technology to tackle social challenges, enhance cybersecurity, improve transparency and much more.
The survey, now in its 18th year, ranks cities in a “top ten” format by population. Riverside finished 7th among cities in the 250,000-499,999 category, ahead of Sacramento but behind Long Beach. The first-place finisher in this category was Virginia Beach, Va.
Cities that were ranked in the top 10 will be honored at an awards dinner during the National League of Cities’ annual conference in Los Angeles on Thursday.
“From increasing the city’s cybersecurity efforts to our continuing commitment to open data and transparency, Riverside is harnessing technology to make government both more secure and more accessible to the residents it serves,” Mayor Rusty Bailey said. “I look forward to seeing Riverside continue to innovate on behalf of residents and business owners.”
The Center for Digital Government also predicted technologies and initiatives that are most likely to receive additional focus in the coming year. These include, for example, cyber security, citizen engagement/experience and the need to hire and retain competent personnel in the information technology field.
“This year’s Digital Cities Survey winners are leading the nation when it comes to leveraging data to improve a wide range of city services and initiatives,” said Teri Takai, executive director of the Center for Digital Government. “Thanks to the efforts of these innovative cities, citizens now benefit from enhanced services as well as improved transparency and privacy protection efforts.
