RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The City of Riverside is welcoming more than 1,500 planning professionals to the city this weekend at the American Planning Association California 2024 Conference. The Riverside Convention Center will host the group, and attendees will enjoy a dynamic kickoff event blending art, culture, innovation and community, featuring local food, artists, music and tours of the Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture.
“This is a great opportunity to showcase our city to planning professionals from all over California,” Mayor Patricia Lock Dawson said. “I look forward to welcoming attendees to enjoy the best of Riverside.”
The conference, which runs Saturday through Tuesday, is themed “Cultivating the Future.” Attendees will examine emerging topics in planning and development including “Connecting to Our River – How Can We Put the River Back in Riverside” and “Cultivating Emerging Leaders – Strategic Skills to Achieve Project Success”
Mobile workshops will get attendees out in the larger community with offerings such as “Eastside Enclaves: A Cultural and Community Journey through Riverside’s Historic Heart” and “Citrus Chronicles: Unveiling Riverside’s Agricultural Heritage & Urban Evolution.”
Mobile workshops around Riverside will explore the impact of Riverside’s craft brew industry, celebrate the cultural and community success of our Eastside Enclaves, share the success of affordable housing and learn from the success of the city’s citrus and agricultural heritage in the Arlington Heights greenbelt. Planning professionals will also be able to join walking tours of the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa and hikes up Mount Rubidoux.
