RIVERSIDE YOUTH COURT PROGRAM NOW RECRUITING FOR VOLUNTEER JURORS
RIVERSIDE, CA – The Riverside Youth Court Program is an innovative approach to juvenile justice and acts as an early intervention for first-time offenders of misdemeanor crimes. It is designed to give youth, who have broken the law and admitted their guilt, a second chance.
Riverside Youth Court is now accepting applications for its volunteer teen juror training session that will be held on September 7, 2019. The session runs from 8:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m., and will be held at the Riverside Police Department’s Magnolia Station Community Room, located at 10540 Magnolia Avenue in Riverside.
This training is required to be part of the Riverside Youth Court volunteer juror pool. To be a volunteer, you must be between the ages of 12 and 17-years-old with a parent or legal guardian’s consent. All youth court volunteers will learn about the juvenile justice system, the concepts of restorative justice, and the deliberation process. They will receive six hours of community service for attending the training and an additional three hours of community service each time he or she participates in a youth court session. After receiving this training, volunteers are able to serve as a juror, court clerk, prosecuting attorney, and defense attorney.
Class size is limited to the first 60 teens, and seats will be given to the first applicants to submit their reservations online at https://www.riversideca.gov/rpd/forms/YouthCrtApp/Default.aspx.
Reservations must be submitted by Thursday, September 5, 2019. For more information, please contact Jessica Nguyen at (951) 826-5275 or by email at [email protected].
