UPDATE TO ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING INVESTIGATION

(Suspect’s Identity and Photo Included)

RIVERSIDE, CA – Detectives have identified the suspect in this ongoing attempted kidnapping investigation as Henry “Oscar” Mazariegos-Gonzalez, 29-years-old of Riverside.  It is believed he may have fled to Mexico to avoid capture.

On Tuesday, August 6, 2019, between 8:00 a.m. and 8:30 a.m., Riverside Police Officers responded to a possible kidnapping attempt in the 6200 block of Rutland Avenue, located in the Arlanza neighborhood of Riverside.  A teenage girl was walking on the sidewalk when a Hispanic man approached her from a parked vehicle.  Moments later, the suspect grabbed the victim and attempted to force her into his vehicle, then struck her with a metal object.  She was able to fight off the suspect and run away.  The suspect then got in his vehicle and fled.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male adult in his 30’s, 5’5” tall with a thin build, dark or tan skin, round face, clean shaven, and last seen wearing a charcoal gray T-shirt, black jeans, and tan work boots.  He was seen driving away in a 2010 to 2013 white Toyota Tundra 4-door pickup, dark tinted windows, with unknown license plates.

Members of the Sexual Assault – Child Abuse Unit (SACA), METRO Team (SWAT), Robbery – Homicide Unit, and Gang Unit have been working continuously to identify and locate the suspect and vehicle involved in this incident.  With the help of uniformed patrol officers, the suspect vehicle was found less than 24 hours after this crime occurred.  It has been processed for potential evidence, and detectives determined the owner was not the suspect or involved in the kidnapping attempt.  The suspect had borrowed the white Toyota Tundra from the owner and used it during the attack.

All efforts and resources are being utilized to locate Henry Mazariegos-Gonzalez.  If anyone knows of his whereabouts or has any additional information regarding this investigation, please contact Detective Christi Arnold at (951) 353-7945 or [email protected], or Detective Brandi Merrill at (951) 353-7120 or [email protected].  Those wishing to remain anonymous can email [email protected] or utilize the Riverside Police Department’s mobile app “SUBMIT A TIP” feature while referencing report number 190022446.
